Theory test explained

The UK theory test is a test of traffic laws and road signs. The test contains multiple-choice questions, case studies and hazard perception test. You need to pass both parts to pass the theory test. Case studies are included in the multiple-choice section.

Theory test practices

We recommend you to use www.theorytest.org advanced theory test practices. These practices are made by professionals and they are very similar to the actual test. The learning material is reproduced from the DVSA revision bank so it does not have exactly same questions as the official theory test. The actual theory test material is not published anywhere.

Yes, definitely. But the most efficient way to practice for the theory test is with online training. The material on www.theorytest.org contains all the information you are required to know for the theory test.

These are the theory test rates for different licence classes.

These prices are valid only when you book the test from the official GOV.UK site

  • Car and motorcycle theory test costs £23
  • Lorry, coach and bus multiple-choice test is £26
  • Hazard perception for lorry, bus and coach is £11

You need to answer a case study-style question as part of your Theory Test.

In your actual theory test, you will be presented with one case study video clip where you will be required to answer 3 multiple-choice questions that are related to the scenario displayed on the video. Each case-study question will be in the multiple-choice format as with the other questions.

Try this case study sample and you'll get the idea:

  • A week long bout of revision here led to the successful completion of the actual motorcycle theory test in Ilford today. A great resource that proved invaluable in achieving 48/50 on the theory part and 69/75 on the hazard perception.
