To pass the motorcycle theory test at your first attempt, you should practise using only the DVSA revision material. Practise online and remember to go through all the motorcycle theory test parts: Hazard perception, multiple-choice questions and road signs. Motorcycle theory test costs £23. If you fail, you have to pay the full amount again.

 

A1 Light motorcycle

  • Up to 11 -kilo watts (and a power-to-weight ratio not over 0.1 kW / kg) and 125 cc
  • Requirements for licence
    • practical test, CBT, theory test
  • Minimum age: 17 years

A1 Motor tricycles

  • Power output not more than 15 kW
  • Requirements for licence
    • CBT theory test, practical test
  • Minimum age: 17 years

A2 Standard motorcycle

  • Up to 35 kW (and a power-to-weight ratio not over 0.2 kW / kg), bike mustn’t be derived from vehicle more than twice its power
  • Requirements for licence
    • Direct access route - practical and theory. Progressive access route - two years experience on A1 motorbike and a further practical test
  • Minimum age: 19 years

A licence

  • Unrestricted motorcycles in power/size, with/without a sidecar, and motor tricycles with power output over 15 kW
  • Requirements for licence
    • Direct access route - CBT theory and practical (driver must be at least 24 years old) Progressive access route - held an A2 licence for a minimum of 2 years - practical test (21 years or over)
  • Minimum age: 24 years (direct) or 21 (progressive access)

 

Hazard perception test

Instructions for the hazard perception test:

  1. Press "Start"
  2. Press the orange "Hazard!" button when you see a developing hazard.
  3. At the end of the test you will see your score and the time frame when you should have reacted.
